Prof. Veronika Skuplik (Germany) - 20.05.2024

Institute of Instrumental Music at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music and the City of Poznań invite you to an open lecture entitled "Dealing with the past today", which will be given by Prof. Veronika Skuplik. The lecture will take place on 20 May 2024 at 5:00 p.m. at the Presidential Hall ul. Święty Marcin 87, Poznań. The lecture will be held in English with translation into Polish. 

Professor Veronika Skuplik is an internationally renowned violinist, described by critics as the "prima donna" of the Baroque violin. Her activities focus on teaching, performing and numerous recordings. She studied at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, the Wilhelms Universität in Münster and the Akademie für Alte Musik (now the Hochschule für Künste) in Bremen, from which she graduated in 1991 in the baroque violin class of Prof. Thomas Albert.

She plays primarily solo and in renowned chamber ensembles and orchestras, such as Concerto Palatino, Ensemble Weser-Renaissance Bremen, in the ensemble Arpeggiata, in which she was first violinist for more than 15 years, with Collegium Vocale Gent, Freiburger Barock Orchester Consort, la dolcezza and in duo with lutenist Andreas Arend. She is the founder of the ensemble UrgentMusic, in which she invites a number of outstanding musicians to collaborate. She performs throughout Europe, Israel, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Professor Skuplik is a lecturer in baroque violin and viola at the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen. She has given masterclasses in Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany (European Hanseatic Ensemble), New York (Carnegie Hall).

Veronika Skuplik's discography includes more than 100 CDs, some of which have been awarded. In addition, four of her own productions have been released by the frabernardo record label: "VIOLINO I" with Austrian unaccompanied violin sonatas from around 1680 (2014), "silk&tweed" with Andreas Arend (2020), "VIOLINO II - catena bohemica" (2021) - the record was nominated for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, and VIOLINO III - il ciclo della vita" (2023).
